Little Snippets, memories - random and enjoyable
- American soldiers carrying out exercises on the commons - Peter Mansfield. All the local lads were on the side of 'our boys' but the Americans dished out chewing gum and chocolate. The 'Pond' was the base for the excercise with wounded men stranded on the 2 islands in the middle.
- Carol Jenkins uncle - many years ago looking out of his window at Lord's Meadow and seeing elephants crossing the horizon. The circus had come to town.
- Pembroke Millpond became the subject of an Act of Parliament in WWII. It had to be dammed to provide an ample water supply in case of extensive bombing by the Germans. When the oil tanks in Pembroke Dock were bombed the fires burnt for weeks.
